A psychiatrist who edited a book warning about the dangers of Donald Trump’s mental health says she and other experts conducted a mental fitness test on the former president based on the evidence from the Mueller report and found that he was unfit for any job, let alone the presidency, as reported by Daily Express US on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
Dr. Bandy Lee, a former Yale med expert, told Daily Express US that she and a panel of the most well-credentialed mental health experts used the information from the Mueller report, which investigated the Russian interference in the 2016 election, to assess Trump’s cognitive abilities and personality traits.
She said the report provided the reports of close associates and co-workers, which are the main focus of fitness tests. Dr Lee said she also requested an in-person examination of Trump but received no response. She said the secret service member who was supposed to visit her never showed up. She said she went ahead with the evaluation of Trump, and the results were alarming.
“We performed a mental fitness test on Donald Trump. The information was far more rigorous than we usually have for fitness tests,” Dr Lee said. “It showed that he was not only unfit to be president but unfit to do any job. He is incapacitated in his ability to make rational decisions, to the point where he would be unfit for any job. He needs to be removed from the dangerous positions. For him, it would be removal from power and removal from the eye of the public.”
Dr. Lee said she edited the 2017 book ‘The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump’, in which 27 psychiatrists, psychologists, and mental health experts raised their concerns about Trump’s mental well-being. She said she has since warned that his condition has deteriorated and that he poses a threat to the nation and the world.
Trump’s mental well-being has become a talking point in the race to become the Republican Party’s presidential nominee. His opponent, Nikki Haley, has suggested that Trump may be mentally unfit for office and has called for mental competency tests for politicians over the age of 75.
However, Dr Lee believes that age is not the main factor. She said that dangerousness has no age and that there are plenty of old people who pass mental faculty tests. She said that the risk is greater, but age is not a deciding factor. She said that she believes presidents and candidates should be tested for mental fitness to begin with because it is such a critical job.
“It is important for the public to know that the person they are employing is mentally fit,” Dr Lee said.
Last Saturday, Trump said he had completed a mental fitness test and “aced it.” He did not provide any details or evidence of the test, which he claimed was “very hard.” He also accused Biden of being mentally unfit and challenged him to take the same test.
