Former President Donald Trump spoke about the Battle of Gettysburg during a rally in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April, 13, and ended up calling it “beautiful.”

Notably, Trump addressed the Lehigh Valley, a region made up of rural communities, expansive suburbs, and Rust Belt cities, at his rally on Saturday at Schnecksville Fire Hall. It encompasses Northampton County, which has historically been a dependable indicator of statewide performance and was one of the two counties that Biden won in 2020.

During the rally, Trump said, “Gettysburg. What an unbelievable battle. That was the Battle of Gettysburg. What an unbelievable – I mean, it was so much and so interesting and so vicious and horrible and so beautiful and so many different ways… Gettysburg wow.”

The historic three-day battle between Union and Confederate soldiers was fought between July 1 and July 3, 1863, in and around Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

The Union won in the clash, which is largely regarded as the pivotal moment in the Civil War that put an end to the Confederacy’s hopes of becoming a separate nation. It was the deadliest fight of the Civil War, with nearly 50,000 deaths in three days.

President Joe Biden, who will make three appearances in the battleground state of Pennsylvania next week, will be closely monitoring Trump’s visit, which includes a fundraiser. Biden will begin by discussing his efforts to change the US tax code in his hometown of Scranton, as per Reuters.

Pennsylvania is a key state in the 2024 presidential election and is expected to receive a lot more visits in the upcoming months.

The state has 19 electoral votes, which is among the highest totals among all 50 states, and supporters who alternate between Republicans and Democrats.

After Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania by less than 45,000 votes in 2016, Biden won the state by less than 1.5%, or around 80,000 votes, in 2020.

Election statistics website FiveThirtyEight demonstrates that state opinion surveys conducted in March fluctuated from indicating Biden leading by 10 percentage points to Trump leading by four points.

People on the Internet trolled Trump as he said during the rally that the Battle of Gettysburg was “beautiful.” A user wrote on X, “Donald Trump always talks about history (or, well, *anything*) like a fourth-grader doing a book report on a book he didn’t read,” while one added, “He has no idea what it was.”
