Bryan Griffin, DeSantis’s press secretary, informed the media through a statement, saying, “This morning, the governor was involved in a car accident while en route to an event in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Fortunately, both he and his team emerged unharmed.”
Grateful for the nation’s prayers and well-wishes for the governor’s safety during his campaign activities, Griffin added, “We appreciate the prayers and well-wishes of the nation for his continued protection while on the campaign trail.”
At 44 years old, DeSantis holds the second position in primary polling, trailing about 30 points behind former President Donald Trump, who faces multiple indictments. This discrepancy is evident in most polling averages and polls conducted in early-voting states.
Approaching the first Republican debate a month from now, there have been reports of DeSantis planning to rejuvenate his campaign.
While one of DeSantis’s staff members sustained minor injuries, they proceeded to the campaign stop to receive treatment there.
Despite the incident, DeSantis continued with his schedule of fundraising and other events in Tennessee, as stated by a spokesperson for Florida media.
