Prominent Conservatives Urge Nikki Haley to Exit Presidential Race, Citing GOP Unity Concerns

Most of the Republican contenders in the primary race against former President Donald Trump have been eliminated, leaving Nikki Haley, the former ambassador to the United Nations, as the sole credible opponent standing. Despite being 0-4 in the primaries and facing a potential loss in her home state of South Carolina, prominent conservatives are urging Haley to withdraw from the presidential race to safeguard her reputation.

A group of 12 well-known conservatives, including former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, former U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese, and Media Research Center President Brent Bozell, among others, has called on Haley to end her campaign. They argue that while she has waged a spirited campaign, it is evident that she cannot secure the GOP nomination, and her continued presence harms the Republican Party. According to CNN

In a letter to Haley, the group expresses appreciation for her efforts but bluntly states, “We applaud your efforts, but your candidacy is over.” They criticize her for staying in the race, asserting that it is detrimental to the party. The group also rebukes Haley for her criticisms of Trump, suggesting that such actions could undermine Trump’s chances against President Joe Biden in the November election.

Despite the pressure to exit the race, Haley remains defiant, continuing to raise funds and vowing to stay in the competition until the end. The group’s plea emphasizes that Haley withdrawing from the race, endorsing Trump, and allowing another year to beckon would be the “better part of valor.”
