In accordance with court documents, a 36-year-old woman named Basma and her 19-year-old daughter, Hanan, have been formally charged with a range of offenses.
These charges include strangulation or suffocation, endangering children, tampering with evidence, abuse of a deceased body, and obstructing justice in connection with the tragic death of Basma’s newborn son.
The incident came to light when a distress call was made to 911, reporting that their mother was unresponsive, leaving the callers uncertain about what to do.
Upon arrival, first responders rushed the 36-year-old mother to the hospital, where it was discovered that she had recently given birth. Subsequently, officers returned to the residence in search of the newborn.
After an extensive search of the home, officers turned their attention to a vehicle parked in the backyard. It was there that they located the newborn infant, who was wrapped in a trash bag inside a bucket in the trunk.
Attempts were made to resuscitate the baby, and he was transported to a children’s hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead.
Reports suggest that Basma placed her newborn son in a trash bag and instructed her daughter to dispose of the baby. Hanan, the 19-year-old daughter, then placed the baby in a bucket in the trunk of the vehicle.
According to a neighbor who witnessed the incident, there was a significant police response, and first responders worked diligently to assist the newborn.
