A tragic case unfolded as Mary, a 27-year-old mother, and her 30-year-old husband, Alan, pleaded guilty to heinous charges related to the neglect and abuse of their 4-year-old son, Judah.
Mary admitted guilt for neglect resulting in the death of a dependent and domestic battery to a child. Prosecutors have asserted that Mary is likely to face a substantial prison sentence for her involvement in the brutal demise of the young boy.
The heartbreaking details of the case reveal that young Judah suffered from starvation, physical abuse, and confinement in a dark basement, where he was restrained with duct tape and denied basic furnishings.
The neglect resulting in death charge carries a maximum sentence of 40 years, while the domestic battery charge could result in an additional six years behind bars for Mary.
Mary’s confession included the acknowledgment that she failed to protect her son from her husband’s torturous acts, which were inflicted almost daily.
Her husband, in a separate legal proceeding, was sentenced to 70 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felonies, including murder. Mary confessed to being aware of the ongoing abuse that ultimately led to Judah’s tragic demise.
The horrifying incident came to light on October 11, 2023, when first responders arrived at Mary’s residence and discovered Judah’s severely injured and lifeless body, wrapped in a blanket in a bedroom. Mary had called 911, reporting that her husband had become enraged and harmed Judah.
According to court documents, the child endured consistent physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his parents.
Prosecutors detailed a pattern of extreme cruelty, with the father subjecting his son to severe beatings and inhumane treatment, including confinement in a dark basement without clothing for extended periods, as well as withholding essential sustenance.
The mother also played a distressing role in the abuse, regularly duct-taping her son’s mouth shut. Surveillance footage from inside the home provided damning evidence, capturing the father striking the young boy at least 13 times, lifting him by the neck, and dropping him onto the floor before leaving him alone in the basement without any furnishings.
Another video depicted the mother punching her 4-year-old son approximately 15 times. Tragically, Judah succumbed to blunt-force trauma to the head, resulting in severe brain bleeding.
Court records noted that the child’s injuries were among the most severe cases of blunt-force trauma to the entire body that a 28-year veteran doctor had ever encountered.
