Renowned entertainment journalist and television presenter Maria Menounos has been on a journey marked by grief, health challenges, and the ultimate joy of motherhood. Despite facing life-threatening conditions and overcoming significant hurdles, Menounos expresses gratitude for the precious moments she thought she might not live to experience.

Hailing from Massachusetts, Menounos has graced television screens as the host of prominent shows like “Extra TV,” “E! News,” “Entertainment Tonight,” and “Conversations with Maria Menounos.” Her versatile career also includes acting and producing, with notable roles in “Fantastic Four” (2005) and “Entourage” (2015).

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Menounos is a wife to writer and film producer Keven Undergaro, with whom she exchanged vows on December 31, 2017. Reflecting on their wedding, she shared a nostalgic Instagram post in January 2014, commemorating the unique experience of getting married in Times Square.

As the New Year unfolded, Menounos, now a mother, celebrated the occasion on the couch with her only daughter, Athena. Acknowledging the differences in their celebration, she expressed contentment and love for the unique moments shared with her family.

Menounos’s journey through life-threatening health issues began in 2017 when she faced a benign brain tumor. Successfully treated, she thought the worst was behind her. However, in January 2023, a new challenge emerged as she was diagnosed with Stage 2 pancreatic cancer. Thanks to early detection, surgery in the following month removed a 3.9-cm tumor, marking a victorious battle against the disease.

In May 2023, Menounos, sharing her story in an interview, emphasized the importance of seeking medical advice for early tumor detection. Despite the resilience she displayed, her health challenges persisted. June 2022 brought severe leg cramps, leading to a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, a condition running in her family. Menounos embraced insulin and a strict diet to manage the condition.

A subsequent hospital visit in July 2022 revealed excruciating abdominal pain and diarrhea, but initial tests showed no abnormalities. Menounos, persistent in understanding her health, underwent a whole-body MRI, uncovering a mass on her pancreas. In a complex surgery, she had the tumor, part of her pancreas, a large fibroid, spleen, and 17 lymph nodes removed.

Fortunate to have the tumor detected early, Menounos won’t require chemotherapy, only annual scans for the next five years. Grateful for her life, she credits her late mother, who passed away from brain cancer in 2021, for sending her a protective signal from the other side.

Reflecting on her health journey, Menounos acknowledged the profound impact of a potential death sentence, especially as she and her husband were expecting their first child via surrogate. The intensity of the situation led to conversations about the worst-case scenarios, emphasizing the fragility of life.

In August 2023, Menounos shared her gratitude on Instagram, expressing the bliss of motherhood and the joy of thriving despite the challenges. Four months later, she celebrated the holidays with her husband, child, and two dogs, highlighting her thankfulness for good health and a loving family.
