House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, shedding light on potential evidence of the FBI’s use of confidential human sources (CHS) during the January 6, 2021, riot at the United States Capitol Building.

As reported by Conservative Brief News on Wednesday, September 27, this revelation suggests that the FBI employed CHSs from field offices outside of Washington, D.C., and may have struggled to monitor their actions, as reported by Just the News.

During recent testimony, Jordan pressed Attorney General Merrick Garland for a briefing on the FBI’s utilization of CHSs during the Capitol riot and requested all relevant documents related to their involvement.

Jordan reiterated this demand in response to testimony from former Assistant Director-in-Charge of the Washington Field Office (WFO), Steven D’Antuono, who disclosed that the FBI was aware that some of its CHSs would be present at the January 6 events.

D’Antuono explained that the WFO learned of the presence of CHSs from other field offices and informants who participated independently.

He revealed that the FBI was aware in advance of January 6 that some CHSs would be in attendance. To assess the situation, the WFO sought assistance from FBI Headquarters to determine the number of CHSs present.

In Jordan’s letter to Wray, he quoted D’Antuono as mentioning that a CHS from the Kansas City Field Office had been on-site at the Capitol and had communicated with their handler, reporting their efforts to intervene and prevent certain actions within the crowd.

The implications of this new information are deeply concerning, as it suggests that the FBI may have lost control over the activities and operations of its informants, particularly the CHSs present at the Capitol on January 6.

The Federalist was among the first media outlets to report the presence of FBI operatives within the Capitol riot crowd. J. Michael Waller, a senior analyst at the Center for Security Policy, noted the organized nature of the attack, with distinct groups identified:

1. Plainclothes militants wearing Trump and MAGA attire at the front police line.

2. Agents-provocateurs encouraging marchers to gather tightly around the Capitol.

3. Individuals wearing Trump or MAGA hats backward, potentially Antifa or leftist agitators.

4. A disciplined, uniformed column of attackers with similar camouflage uniforms and black gear, some equipped with helmets and GoPro cameras.

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson also reported that his sources indicated the presence of numerous federally managed operatives within the crowd.

Jordan’s letter to FBI Director Wray raises questions about the extent of the FBI’s reliance on CHSs during the January 6 Capitol riot and their ability to control and monitor these informants effectively.

This information underscores the need for transparency and accountability regarding the FBI’s actions leading up to and during the events of January 6, 2021.
