A 26-year-old security guard has been apprehended on suspicion of murder after allegedly beheading a 47-year-old woman, severing her hand, and carrying it in his jacket pocket.

The Pueblo Police Department reported that on January 10, officers responded to Fountain Creek and discovered the deceased body of Renee Marie Portillos in the water. Solomon Martinez was subsequently arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.

According to Martinez’s affidavit, as cited by KRDO-TV, on the morning of January 9, Martinez met with his roommate, Joshua Mazzurco, and another individual at a car wash. Martinez reportedly had dirt on his clothing and blood on his hands, which he cleaned off with a power washer.

Martinez allegedly asked Mazzurco if he wanted to “absolve $1,000 off your debt” and assist him in digging a 10-foot hole, later claiming it was a joke.

Mazzurco went to Martinez’s car to retrieve a tool bag and observed Martinez struggling to move a “big” object. According to the Pueblo Chieftain, citing the affidavit, the second witness and Martinez transported the body to the Fountain Creek area. Martinez purportedly threatened the witness with a gun for assistance, but the person refused.

The witness subsequently reported Martinez to the police, leading them to the victim’s body. Martinez allegedly filmed the body to “cover for himself,” and then placed a blanket over it. The video reportedly revealed the headless victim with blood in various areas of her body.

Police arrested Martinez at the arts center where he worked as a security guard. Before his arrest, he allegedly mentioned, “I had a hand in my jacket for two days.” Officers discovered the hand inside a plastic bag in his front pocket.

During questioning, Martinez initially claimed the witness borrowed his car, leaving his gun and phone in it. He later changed his story, stating he picked up a prostitute on January 8. He alleged he dropped her off around 2 a.m. to 3 a.m., and she was still alive.

Martinez, who reportedly had cuts on his hands, first attributed them to his dogs, then claimed they came from picking up dog feces. Blood was also found inside Martinez’s vehicle. He is currently in custody at the Pueblo County Jail, with a bond set at $1 million.
