Sandra Lee, the renowned Food Network alum, and her boyfriend Ben Youcef are safe after narrowly avoiding the mass shooting that occurred in downtown Prague on Thursday, as confirmed by PEOPLE.

Reports from The Associated Press, The New York Times, and Reuters indicate that ten people lost their lives in the tragic shooting in the Czech Republic. Sandra Lee and Ben Youcef were on vacation in Prague as part of a broader European holiday. Sandra Lee shared an update on Instagram, revealing their proximity to the shooting site.

“We are safe but it’s shocking how fast the world can turn. We were less than 3 blocks from the shooting site,” she wrote alongside a photo with Youcef. Expressing their disbelief, she added, “We had so many conversations about how safe Prague is/was. This is just shocking. We are stunned and send all our love to everyone in Prague.”

Lee emphasized the importance of cherishing life, stating, “Live every day to its fullest. Life is precious.” The Instagram post followed Lee’s documentation of their time in Prague just two days earlier, where she shared her long-standing desire to visit the city due to her Czech grandfather.

The shooting, which began shortly after 3 p.m. local time on December 21, resulted in ten fatalities and 30 people wounded, as reported by the AP. Czech police have confirmed that the shooter was killed, and no other assailants are believed to be involved.

Officers responded to the shooting at Jan Palach Square, near the Vltava River in Prague’s Old Town area. The philosophy department of Charles University was evacuated during the incident. Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda expressed his grief on social media, stating, “I have no words. All I feel at this moment is sadness.”

He emphasized the need to reassure the people of Prague about their safety and condemned the tragedy, offering condolences to the bereaved. Svoboda urged resilience against evil, acknowledging the unprecedented scale of the incident.
