Based on court documents, a 36-year-old mother, later identified as Latina, has been convicted of capital murder in the tragic death of her 11-year-old son, Joshua.
The mother’s actions were driven by her belief that the boy was possessed by a malevolent entity. Shockingly, she subjected her son to brutal violence, beating him with a metal bar and ultimately stabbing him through the back of the head while his two younger brothers were present in the room.
Prosecutors argued that the mother took the life of her 11-year-old son because she believed he was a demon. Consequently, she has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Latina’s defense attorney reportedly asserted that his client was in the midst of a severe psychotic episode at the time of the incident.
As per reports, a psychologist testified that she was unable to comprehend the wrongfulness of her actions during the ordeal. Dr. Robert disclosed that just before the tragic event, Latina mentioned going to her car to smoke a cigarette or marijuana.
She then retrieved a backpack from her car, containing a metal pipe believed to resemble an “ancient dagger.” Returning to the hotel room’s bathroom, she filled the bathtub with water and added a piece of toilet paper that she had used, believing it would transform the water into “holy water.” Subsequently, she attacked her son while he was in bed.
According to reports, Latina told investigators that she perceived her son with red eyes and growling, no longer recognizing him as human.
Although she attempted to stab her 11-year-old son in the heart, he woke up before she could plunge the dagger into his chest. Consequently, she dragged him into the bathroom, breaking her rosary during the process, which she believed indicated the presence of a demon in the room.
Tragically, she submerged him in the water, ultimately ending his life. Additionally, Latina’s two other sons recounted hearing her engage in a plea with an unseen entity during the distressing incident.
